Your child’s first experiences of school are the key to laying the foundation for a successful learning journey. It is therefore crucial that these early experiences are positive and developmentally appropriate.
Run by our highly specialized teachers, the Early Years program in ISSP delivers a balanced curriculum that focuses on the development of both the interpersonal and academic skills of the child. It is well-aligned with our dominant pedagogy which is the IB PYP Framework.
In the Early Years, we see play as the primary driver for guided inquiry. This reflects the holistic and authentic way in which children explore, grow, and learn. At ISSP, play involves choice, promotes agency, and provides opportunities to inquire into important concepts and personal interests.
Inquiring through play in the Early Years supports the notion that learning is an active process. To provide this we work hard at creating healthy learning environments and forming supportive relationships.
When these elements are in place, children in the Early Years Program at ISSP respond with curiosity, imagination, creativity, and agency.
As their skills evolve, Early Years learners develop a positive sense of identity to interact, reflect, and contribute to their own and others’ learning and development in the Early Years and beyond. Well-planned, play-based learning is inquiry and it is through play that children in the Early Years program at ISSP learn about who they are and how they connect to those around them.
As this learning process evolves through individual and collaborative inquiry with peers, the students build upon their prior knowledge, and their skill development and become more sophisticated young learners.
